In 1941 after serving with 35 Sqn, Leonard was given command of No. 76 Sqn, flying Handley Page Halifaxes. He demonstrated keen interest in the work of both aircrew and ground crew and his interest in innovation and technical matters led to the modification of his Squadron’s aircraft, helping to improve service ablility and performance, and reduce losses.
